Mangroves have long been described as the best natural buffer against sea level rise and storm surge impacts. Volunteering opportunities are limited.

The University of Miami Clean Energy Summit is poised to be a pivotal event, underscoring Miami's growing role as a hub for clean energy innovation, sustainable practices, and resilience against climate change. The summit will bring together a diverse array of participants from academia, state and federal governments, local community stakeholders, and the energy sector, all converging in Miami.
The University has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA by the nationally renown organization Arbor Day Foundation for the tenth consecutive year! The program will start on April 18 at 6 pm, at the Arboretum Stone Circle, with our land acknowledgement, don't miss the free concert from Frost School of Music artist Jasmine Harris and her band. The FPL SolarTogether program, which is one of the nation’s largest solar energy programs, provides organizations like the University of Miami, the opportunity to help reduce energy costs and achieve sustainability goals – on its journey to Carbon Neutrality. Join us on a tour of FPL’s Miami-Dade Solar Energy Center in SW Miami-Dade. Spots are limited and first come, first served. Address and additional details including carpooling option will be provided in a confirmation email once you RSVP. Note: Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, safety glasses) will be provided by FPL at the site. You must wear long pants and flat, closed-toe shoes for our safety. The built and natural environments are critical for our efforts to build resilience. Smart land-use, robust infrastructure and healthy ecosystem services are key capacities of equitable, sustainable and resilient communities. Many South Florida projects are deploying nature-based responses for infrastructure and officials are considering modifications to zoning and building regulations to reduce vulnerability and risk.
Founded in 2012, ECO Agency is the umbrella organization under Student Government that has been promoting sustainable living at the U and left a legacy of green projects all over campus. The GREEN Games Award ceremony is a competition where student orgs will volunteer to design sustainability projects, create sustainable artworks, and get involved off campus to earn points. A coalition of environmental and community outreach programs aiming to effect change through creative measures - UThrift will be doing the annual locker clean out, but this year donating to a local homeless shelter. We are encouraging students to do their closet clean out at this time to give back to the local community. We will also be crocheting plastic bags into reusable, antimicrobial mats for the homeless community. Other organizations are collaborating and giving back in their own ways.
