The Whale - Lakeside Village green

April 20-21

As part of UM's Earth Day events, Billie Lynn, art professor, has created a 65-foot replication of a sperm whale which will be displayed on the Lakeside Village green on April 20 and 21
Art performances:
- Thursday, April 20 from 2:30-3:00 pm, thirty dance students from the Frost School of Music Dance Program will unite with Prof. Lynn's whale to mourn the extinction of whales in a performance art piece facilitated by dance/movement Professors Carol Kaminsky, Nicole Perry and 
Jorge Morejon, called, "The Wail for the Whale," with music by Frost student Jacques Yarris.
- Thursday, April 20 from 8-8:30 pm, concert by Frost School of Music cellist, Esther Baker. Esther will perform from inside the Whale which will be illuminated for the occasion.

EARTH DAY FAIR - HUG THE LAKE

Earth Day Fair

April 21, 10.30 am - 2 pm

On April 21 from 10.30 a.m.-2 p.m., pass by the Lakeside Patio, grab a delicious vegan empanada, and learn about the great work ECO and community partners are doing to lessen our carbon footprint. The ECO Agency will be there, so don't forget to get your ECO giveaway and FREE food truck voucher!

Hug The Lake

Join us on April 21 from 12:05-12:20 p.m., on Earth Day at the Lakeside Stage for our traditional Hug The Lake event and Roberta "Bosey" Fulbright Foote award ceremony to honor a member of the UM community—faculty, staff, student, or trustee—who has made a meaningful and lasting contribution to the beauty, humanity, and future of the campus.

Global Frontiers - Cosford Cinema

April 22, 4 pm

Miami-Dade County’s pioneer eco-artist and inaugural artist-in-residence Xavier Cortada will celebrate Earth Day 2023 at the University of Miami’s Cosford Cinema by working with his team at the Xavier Cortada Foundation to engage guests in a series of thought-provoking and solutions-oriented art projects that explore our deep interconnectedness with the rest of the planet. Cortada will invite everyone in attendance to participate in “The Underwater,” a countywide campaign that’s catalyzing action on sea level rise through elevation-driven public art installations. Free Admission.
