FY2020 saw a dramatic 60% increase in savings. The first 10 months of the year saw a 12.5% increase in savings. The margin for environmental impact savings was expected to double from the FY2019, but with the extreme reductions in volume due to the Pandemic , the benefit to the environment was actually ten-fold.

The University Change Management Printing Sustainability Campaign spearheaded by the Department of Managed Print Services and Canon Solutions America aims various efforts to streamlining print processes through print enabling technology and print behavior realignment.
The teams meet with representatives of University departments to learn and assess printing related workflow needs. Once assessments and area walkthroughs are completed, department leads are provided with specific strategies to reduce departmental overall printing volume, lower color printing, eliminate single-sided printing, and reduce personal printers.
This campaign also seeks to boost awareness about the Toner Recycling program. Now, anyone at the University can ship used Canon toner cartridges and waste toner bottles back to Canon using pre-paid shipping labels. For more information about this program, visit miami.edu/recycle

Having the right device to print, scan, fax, or copy documents can lead to significant
environmental, productivity, and financial efficiencies. But what is the right device? The
answer depends on volume. The Managed Print Services (MPS) program, together with
Canon, can help ensure offices and departments are using the most suitable and efficient
devices for their output. To support the University's sustainability goals, MPS and Canon
recommend replacing inefficient single-function printers, fax machines, and scanners with
multi-function, feature-rich, energy-efficient Canon devices.
Canon establishes environmental goals and monitors its progress on a yearly basis.
Initiatives are continually undertaken to reach these goals, which focus on minimizing
lifecycle CO2, raw materials/use CO2, and the energy consumption at operational sites. Visit
MPS-Green U Initiatives to see the impact of these initiatives on our environment.
