Butterfly Garden 101

If you are interested in starting a Florida butterfly garden or attracting more butterflies to your existing garden, you will need plants that will provide nectar, water and shelter for every stage of a butterfly’s development. Learn about butterfly garden design with Giselle Jordan, Master Gardener at the Miami Dade IFAS extension. Join us  in room 250 of the Campos Sano Building (1300 Campo Sano Ave, Coral Gables, FL 33146; map).

FPL Solar Together is a solar community program meant to multiply solar energy center across the region. 'Canes day of service

Join our team of alumni and students for a day of planting and gardening at the U! Small groups of volunteers will help beautify various green spaces of the Coral Gables campus. Bring closed shoes, a hat, a reusable bottle and some elbow grease!

Saturday April 13th- Mystery Service Trip! – The idea is that students do not know where they will be going to do service but we will be providing the bus and they will find out when they get there. (Can share with this group a hint that the location relates to helping the environment in a unique way)

Wednesday April 17th- Environmental Volunteer Fair- Invite Community Partners related to helping the environment to campus to showcase ways students can volunteer

Saturday April 20th- Surfrider Beach Clean Up- Provide buses to clean local beaches

Arbor Day Celebration

April 18 at 6 pm

The University has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA by the nationally renown organization Arbor Day Foundation for the ninth time in a row. The program will start on April 19 at 6 pm, at the Arboretum Stone Circle, after our land acknowledgement, don't miss the free concert from Frost School of Music artist Jasmine Harris and her band.
Finger food will be served. Event sponsored by the Gifford Arboretum.

  • CORAL GABLES RECYCLING DRIVE-THRU

    Take part in the Coral Gables Recycling Drive-Thru on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. to drop off your old 14-gallon recycling bins, recycle your old electronics and large cardboard boxes, dispose of your household hazardous waste, shred your sensitive documents, and donate your "lightly/gently used" clothing. For more information, visit www.coralgables.com/kcgb

  • MANGROVE CLEAN UP with the ROSENSTIEL SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE

    Earth Day is coming up, so let's give back by participating in a mangrove cleanup! 

    The Sustainability Initiative is hosting a mangrove cleanup with Shake a Leg Kayaks Saturday, April 22nd from 8:30am-11am at Dinner Key located in Coconut Grove. This cleanup will take place both in water and on land. Shake a Leg Kayaks is providing 10 double kayaks, first come first serve. If you have your own kayak or paddleboard, we highly encourage you to bring it for the cleanup. 

    When: Saturday, April 22nd 8:30am 
    Where: 2620 S Bayshore Dr
    Coconut Grove FL

    -> meet at the back of the parking lot by the water and the sailing mast.

    We will provide gloves and bags for the cleanup. Please bring sun protection and reusable water bottles.

    If you are interested in participating, you will need to sign a waiver prior to the cleanup (waiver will be provided on site).   We hope to see you there!

      • Art, music, and community activities focusing on sustainability, earth care, and love of the outdoors
    • Saturday, April 22nd, Earth Day 
      • In-Person Yoga  9 AM - 10 AM  - Yoga session with a meditation focused on healing the planet.
      • Volunteer Appreciation Event  11 AM - 1 PM  - Thanking volunteers for their commitment and stewardship at The Underline as we work to celebrate multimodal transit and the importance of a relationship with the outdoors. Volunteers will receive a plant as token of appreciation
    • Sunday April 30th:  City Nature Challenge: Citizen science competition to collect the most beautiful images of native flora and fauna.
